| Washington Parish School System Offers H1N1 Vaccinations Vaccinations against H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) will be offered free of charge to students and employees in the Washington Parish School System during the first two weeks of December. The vaccination campaign will take place according to the schedule below for students in grades 6-12: · December 7 - Franklinton High School and Franklinton Junior High School – 10:00 til 2:00 · December 8 - Pine School – 10:00 til 2:00 · December 9 - Mt. Hermon School – 10:00 – 2:00 · December 10 - Angie Junior High School – 9:00 til 11:00, and Varnado High School – 12:00 til 2:00 The nasal spray vaccine and shots will be offered according to the schedule below forstudents in grades PK-5: · December 7 - Franklinton High – 4:00 til 8:00 · December 8 – Thomas Elementary – 4:00 til 8:00 · December 9 - Mt. Hermon School – 4:00 til 8:00 · December 10 - Varnado High – 4:00 til 8:00 Elementary students receiving the vaccination must be accompanied by their parents. Prior to receiving the nasal spray vaccine or shot, a completed consent form for the vaccination will be required. The School System is providing this service as a convenience for parents who choose to have their children vaccinated. Parents may wish to review information available about H1N1 and the vaccine before deciding whether to participate in this program. Health officials recommend that children under ten years of age taking part in this program be vaccinated early in December and then get a second booster shot 28 days later. The second dose of the vaccine will be offered between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on January 20 at Franklinton High School and Mt. Hermon School, and on January 21 at Thomas Elementary School and Varnado High School. The School System is working in conjunction with the Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health, and the Louisiana Department of Education in the effort.
